The partnership between SMEDAN and GIZ focuses on equipping Nigerian SMEs with the tools, resources, and training needed to thrive in today’s digital economy. A central component of this initiative is the Inspire, Create, Start, and Scale (ICSS) program, which will provide entrepreneurs with comprehensive training designed to enhance their business management skills, foster innovation, and unlock new growth opportunities. Additionally, SMEs will gain access to infrastructure, including cutting-edge digital tools that will enable them to scale their operations, improve efficiency, and expand their market reach.

This initiative is set to not only build the capacity of local businesses but also empower entrepreneurs to maximize their potential and contribute to Nigeria’s broader economic development. By strengthening management practices and providing the necessary resources, this partnership aims to create an enabling environment for SMEs to overcome challenges and accelerate their growth.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Markus Wauschkuhn, Head of the Sustainable Economic Development Cluster at GIZ Nigeria, and his team for their unwavering dedication to making this partnership a reality. Their commitment to supporting the development of Nigeria’s SME sub-sector is inspiring, and we are confident that this collaboration will yield transformative results for small businesses across the country.

Together, SMEDAN and GIZ are setting the stage for a brighter, more prosperous future for Nigerian entrepreneurs. This partnership aligns with our long-term vision of fostering a thriving SME ecosystem, where businesses can flourish, contribute to job creation, and drive sustainable economic growth.

Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting journey to empower Nigerian SMEs and support their continued success.

Our discussions were focused on exploring ways to bolster local food production and expand revenue streams through strategic exports. Both GIZ and our Chinese partners expressed a keen interest in collaborating with SMEDAN to develop innovative solutions that address key challenges within the agribusiness sector. By leveraging their expertise and resources, we aim to unlock new avenues for growth and improve the overall efficiency of SMEs operating in this vital industry.

During the meeting, I also took the opportunity to highlight our ongoing efforts in establishing Common Facility Centers (CFCs). These centers are designed to play a crucial role in minimizing operational costs for SMEs by providing access to shared, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. This approach not only helps reduce the financial burden on small businesses but also ensures that they have access to modern tools and technologies that enhance their production capabilities.

The CFCs are instrumental in bridging the gap between local SMEs and international markets. By offering comprehensive support services, including logistics, marketing, and training, these centers help SMEs improve their product quality, streamline their operations, and ultimately, increase their competitiveness on a global scale. This, in turn, contributes to the overall goal of enhancing local food production and expanding export opportunities.

The discussions with GIZ and our Chinese counterparts were highly productive, and there is palpable excitement about the potential collaborations that lie ahead. As we work towards attracting foreign investments, we remain committed to creating beneficial opportunities for our SMEs. This collaborative effort will be pivotal in driving sustainable growth and ensuring that Nigerian SMEs can fully realize their potential in the international marketplace.

In conclusion, today’s engagement marks a promising step towards forging stronger international partnerships and advancing the development of SMEs in Nigeria. We look forward to the forthcoming collaborations and the positive impact they will have on our agribusiness sector and the broader economy.
