Furthermore, it continues the support for revitalizing our state’s Industrial Development Center (IDC), which serves as a hub for innovation, training, and industrial growth. Through these comprehensive efforts, Katsina State is empowering entrepreneurs and SMEs by ensuring access to affordable finance, modern equipment, and specialized BDS services to help them start, run, or scale their businesses effectively.

During my address at the launch event, I encouraged the SMEs and entrepreneurs in attendance to seize these valuable opportunities. By leveraging the financial resources and modern tools available through these programs, they can significantly enhance their competitiveness in the local and global markets. Moreover, tailored BDS services offer personalized guidance, enabling businesses to overcome challenges and achieve sustainable growth.

In addition to this, I actively promoted our #GrowNigerian agenda on the international stage during the Festa della Repubblica, Italy’s National Day celebration. The OLOP initiative aims to deliver comprehensive support to selected viable cooperative societies in all 774 Local Government Areas across Nigeria. This support encompasses the enhancement of human capacity through skill development, the integration of modern technologies to boost productivity, and access to financial resources to ensure sustainability. By working closely with local governments and cooperative societies, we intend to stimulate growth in local production, facilitate the creation of jobs, and improve the overall economic outlook of each community.

During my visit, I had the privilege of inspecting several completed and ongoing projects in Kosofe Local Government. These projects represent the tangible outcomes of strategic grassroots engagement and investment in community development. Among the facilities inspected were the newly completed Executive Council (EXCO) chamber, a state-of-the-art legislative building, an emergency response center that bolsters local disaster preparedness, and modern educational facilities designed to provide quality education for the next generation.

These inspections offered valuable insights into how local governments can serve as pivotal partners in driving sustainable development and improving the lives of their constituents. By aligning SMEDAN’s goals with the efforts of local councils, the OLOP initiative has the potential to unlock vast economic opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across Nigeria, contributing to inclusive growth and national prosperity. It was truly exciting to witness the creativity and dedication of participants as they presented their businesses’ unique attributes and ambitious growth plans.

The competition featured a wide array of industries, demonstrating the diversity and potential of Nigeria’s MSME sector. I want to extend heartfelt congratulations to all the finalists, including Shea Tribe, Eco Haven, Jumish ICT Services, Eccentric, and Ayosifam Integrated Service. These innovative businesses, along with several others who took part in the competition, truly exemplify the spirit of entrepreneurship and the drive for success. Their determination and ingenuity were evident, and each participant left a lasting impression on the judges and audience alike.

Powered by 7-Fifteen Capital Limited, the #SMEDANSpeedPitch Competition not only provided a platform for entrepreneurs to gain exposure but also offered valuable rewards. One of the key announcements made during the clinic was the launch of the Small and Medium Enterprises Industrial Land Acquisition Scheme (SILAS) by Governor Dapo Abiodun. This landmark initiative is designed to tackle one of the most significant barriers to MSME growth in Nigeria—the lack of access to affordable and strategically located industrial land. Through SILAS, small businesses will now have the opportunity to acquire land in industrial zones at subsidized rates, allowing them to establish manufacturing and production facilities in proximity to essential resources and infrastructure. This will not only reduce overhead costs for MSMEs but also promote the creation of industrial clusters that will drive economic growth in the region.

In my address at the event, I emphasized the critical need for policy measures that can alleviate the challenges faced by MSMEs, particularly in the areas of production costs, market access, and financial accessibility. I reiterated the importance of reducing production costs through initiatives such as SILAS, which will allow businesses to allocate more resources toward innovation, capacity building, and improving product quality. The report serves as a crucial tool for policymakers, investors, and business owners by identifying key areas where SMEs excel and highlighting areas where interventions are necessary to improve competitiveness. By gathering and analyzing data on performance, challenges, and growth opportunities, the MSME Competitiveness Report will help guide future policies and strategies aimed at bolstering the SME sector, ensuring that the necessary support is in place to foster sustainable growth.

As part of our efforts to engage with stakeholders, we also organized a town hall meeting with Business Development Service Providers (BDSPs). These service providers play an essential role in the development of SMEs by offering critical advisory and support services. The meeting provided a platform for BDSPs to voice their challenges, allowing us to identify and address key issues that may hinder their effectiveness. By listening to their concerns and offering solutions, we aim to strengthen the support network available to SMEs, ensuring that they receive the best possible guidance and resources to thrive in their respective industries.

Additionally, I had the opportunity to tour the Industrial Development Center (IDC), where I engaged in discussions about ongoing efforts to revitalize the center. The IDC is a key institution in the state’s industrial landscape, and its revitalization is crucial for providing increased support to SMEs operating within the state.
