Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting with Elsie Attafuah, the new UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, to explore ways our partnership can drive progress toward the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and foster the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country. This strategic collaboration between SMEDAN and UNDP Nigeria aims to leverage collective expertise, resources, and influence to create meaningful impact on both economic and social fronts.
As we discussed new avenues to strengthen our joint efforts, it became evident that our goals align in several key areas, particularly in providing workforce support, talent development, and capacity-building initiatives for MSMEs. By improving access to training and development opportunities for small businesses, we aim to empower local entrepreneurs and workers, enhancing their capabilities, productivity, and resilience. These initiatives will not only support the growth of MSMEs but also create job opportunities that are essential for sustainable development. Through this partnership, we hope to contribute to reducing poverty, promoting inclusive economic growth, and addressing challenges related to inequality.
Later in the day, I attended the reception dinner marking the conclusion of the annual Heirs Holdings Group Directors’ Annual Summit, where H.E. Kashim Shettima, Vice President of Nigeria, was the guest of honor. The event, which brought together a range of industry leaders, offered a platform to exchange ideas and insights on the evolving landscape of the SME sector and the broader business environment.
The Vice President’s address was a call to action for all stakeholders to prioritize innovation, resilience, and investment in Nigeria’s growing SME ecosystem. It was inspiring to witness the commitment of Heirs Holdings Group and other organizations to supporting MSMEs, as their contribution to the economy remains invaluable.
Engaging with other leaders during the dinner allowed us to reflect on shared challenges and opportunities, and I look forward to translating these conversations into concrete actions that will bolster the MSME sub-sector in Nigeria. Through collaborations like these, we can continue to drive sustainable development and economic growth in the country.
