Today, I had the privilege of joining His Excellency, Vice President Kashim Shettima, at the official launch of the 3rd Edition of the Expanded National MSMEs Clinic in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State. These clinics, which have previously been held in Benue and Ogun States, are part of the federal government’s broader initiative to streamline business processes in Nigeria. The clinic series serves as a nationwide platform that facilitates business interactions, providing immediate and comprehensive solutions to challenges faced by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.
The importance of these clinics cannot be overstated. They represent a major milestone in the government’s agenda to support the MSME subsector, which plays a crucial role in the development of the Nigerian economy. The initiative is designed to assist MSMEs by reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks, improving access to essential resources, and ensuring that business owners receive the support they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive market. The clinics also bring together key stakeholders, including government agencies, to provide on-the-spot solutions and guidance that can transform the fortunes of these enterprises.
One of the highlights of today’s event was the distribution of grants to MSMEs, further underscoring the government’s resolve to empower small business owners. In his speech, Vice President Shettima, who also serves as the Chairman of the National Council on SMEs, reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to the growth and development of MSMEs. He emphasized that these enterprises form the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, and their success is vital to the overall prosperity of the nation.
SMEDAN (Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria), which serves as the Secretariat for the National Council on SMEs, continues to play a pivotal role in these initiatives. The agency’s primary responsibility is to coordinate actions across various levels of government to ensure that the #GrowNigerian strategy is effectively implemented. By doing so, SMEDAN helps create an enabling environment for MSMEs to flourish, thereby contributing significantly to national economic growth.
