Last week in Zanzibar, I had the privilege of visiting the Princess of Peace Initiative Zanzibar (PPIZ), where I met a group of remarkable young ladies who have identified various pressing issues within their communities and are eager to learn sustainable ways to address them as social entrepreneurs. Their enthusiasm and commitment to making a difference are truly inspiring, and it was an honor to share with them my experiences at SME100Africa, where we work tirelessly to empower young entrepreneurs across the continent.

As human beings, we must continue to democratize access to education and learning in Africa, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to transform their lives and communities. The image of students sitting on the floor of overcrowded classrooms, struggling to learn in challenging conditions, is all too familiar across Africa. Fortunately, these young ladies at PPIZ have the choice to sit on the floor, with chairs available behind them, but many others across the continent do not have such a luxury. They are forced to learn in dire conditions, often without basic educational resources or infrastructure.

We can no longer afford to wait for governments to address these issues. The time for action is now, and we have the power to make a difference. By supporting organizations that are actively working to solve problems in education and learning, such as Teach For Nigeria, EduGrant Nigeria, Softcom, and many others, we can help create a brighter future for the next generation. These organizations are dedicated to providing innovative solutions that improve access to quality education, equip students with the skills they need to succeed, and empower educators to deliver impactful lessons.

The young ladies I met in Zanzibar are a testament to the potential that exists within Africa’s youth. With the right support, they can become the social entrepreneurs who will drive positive change in their communities and beyond. Let us all commit to playing our part in this important mission, ensuring that education and learning are accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances. By doing so, we can help to build a more equitable and prosperous future for all.
