Last week, in partnership with the Lagos State Government and the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), we successfully concluded the training for the 3rd cohort of survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Lagos. This achievement marks another significant milestone in our collective efforts to restore hope and dignity to these resilient women. I want to take a moment to commend these strong ladies for their courage in speaking out and to congratulate them on this new chapter of their lives. I also extend heartfelt congratulations to the dedicated teams at DSVA and SME100Africa for their unwavering commitment to this cause. Well done.
The harsh reality is that every month, a minimum of 300 women in Lagos state are subjected to abuse, molestation, and rape, often at the hands of those they trust the most. When such heinous acts are reported, the Lagos State Government swiftly intervenes, first by relocating the women to a shelter to ensure their safety. From there, SME100Africa steps in to give these survivors a fresh start, equipping them with new skills that empower them to rebuild their lives with renewed confidence and purpose.
This project holds a special place in my heart, not only because I have six sisters but because I firmly believe that women are investment multipliers. When we invest in a woman, we are investing in the entire society. Women have the power to transform families, communities, and even nations, and it is our responsibility to support and uplift them, especially in their darkest moments.
I encourage everyone to support this vital project. Here are two ways you can make a difference:
- If You See Something, Say Something: If you know anyone who is experiencing domestic or sexual violence, don’t stay silent. Help them get the assistance they need by contacting the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency. Your voice could be the one that saves a life.
- Commit Your Time and Resources: Another way to support this cause is by dedicating your time and resources. Whether through volunteering, donating, or raising awareness, your contribution can have a lasting impact. To get involved, reach out to SME100Africa at 08177753650 or the DSVA.
Together, we can continue to empower these women, giving them the tools they need to overcome their past and build a brighter future. Let’s be the change they need.
