#TBT to earlier this week when we proudly launched the SMEDAN Climate & Green Energy Desk (SCGED) in the presence of esteemed guests: Inga Stefanowicz, Head of Section Green and Digital Economy at the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS; Dr. Olawale Anifowose, Managing Director of Global Entrepreneurship Network Nigeria (GEN Nigeria); and Mr. Bitrus Lawrence Garki, Mandate Secretary of the Area Council Service in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

SMEs are at the heart of impactful change, and with the launch of SCGED, we’re setting the stage for a new era of sustainable business practices. SCGED is more than just an initiative; it is a movement dedicated to embracing and fostering entrepreneurial innovations that enable SMEs to tackle the challenges of climate change head-on.

Our mission is to empower SMEs across Nigeria to adopt renewable energy solutions, integrate green supply chain management, and implement climate-resilient agricultural practices. These innovations are not only crucial for mitigating the effects of climate change but also for creating a thriving and sustainable future for all.

Renewable energy solutions, such as solar power and biomass, are vital in reducing carbon footprints and promoting clean energy usage among SMEs. By harnessing these technologies, businesses can decrease their reliance on fossil fuels, cut down operational costs, and contribute to the global effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Green supply chain management is another cornerstone of SCGED’s mission. By encouraging SMEs to adopt eco-friendly practices throughout their supply chains, we aim to reduce waste, enhance resource efficiency, and foster a circular economy. This approach ensures that products are designed, produced, and distributed in a way that minimizes environmental impact, ultimately leading to a more sustainable business ecosystem.

Climate-resilient agriculture is also a key focus. In a country where agriculture is a significant contributor to the economy, equipping SMEs with the knowledge and tools to adapt to changing climate conditions is essential. Through SCGED, we support the adoption of sustainable farming practices, the use of climate-resistant crops, and the implementation of water-efficient irrigation systems.

We invite you to join us on this visionary journey. Together, we can drive meaningful change, protect our planet, and ensure that future generations inherit a world where sustainability is not just an option but a way of life. Let’s make a difference, one SME at a time.
