I began the day in Lagos with a significant milestone for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. It was an honor to launch the SMEDAN National Policy and Operating Guidelines for the Certification and Accreditation of Business Development Service Providers (BDSPs). This policy is a pivotal step in ensuring that SMEs across the country receive high-quality support and services that are essential for their growth and sustainability.
The event also marked the granting of licenses to the third batch of qualifying BDSPs. These professionals are not just service providers; they are critical partners in our capacity-building programs, offering SMEs the expertise and guidance needed to navigate the challenges of business development. Their role in fostering business growth and success cannot be overstated. By equipping SMEs with the necessary tools, knowledge, and strategies, BDSPs contribute significantly to the overall economic development of Nigeria.
The successful launch of this policy and the accreditation of new BDSPs is a testament to the collaborative efforts of everyone involved. Special thanks go to the National Steering Committee and the various stakeholders who worked tirelessly to bring this initiative to fruition. Their dedication and hard work have laid the foundation for a more structured and effective support system for SMEs across Nigeria.
As we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible for SMEs in Nigeria, it is essential to recognize the importance of BDSPs in this journey. They are the backbone of our capacity-building efforts, ensuring that SMEs are not just surviving but thriving in a competitive business environment. The policy we have launched today will ensure that BDSPs are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to deliver top-notch services to SMEs, ultimately driving economic growth and job creation in the country.
I am excited about the future and the potential that this new policy and the BDSPs hold for the SME sector in Nigeria. With continued collaboration and commitment from all stakeholders, we can look forward to a more robust and vibrant SME ecosystem in Nigeria.
