I am currently engaged in the 15th National Council Meeting for Industry, Trade, and Investment, which has brought together key stakeholders from across Nigeria. This crucial event includes the participation of state commissioners of commerce and industry from all 36 states, along with the heads of various parastatals within the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment. The gathering provides a platform for robust discussions on policies and initiatives aimed at fostering economic growth and industrial development across the country.
Our focus is on enhancing the industrial landscape, promoting local manufacturing, and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. As we exchange ideas and strategies, there is a shared commitment to ensuring that Nigeria’s industry, trade, and investment sectors are positioned to drive sustainable development and create jobs. The collaboration and insights shared here are instrumental in shaping the future of our nation’s economic agenda.
In addition to my involvement in the National Council Meeting, I had the privilege of attending the ‘Made in Nigeria’ Opportunity Fair, a significant event that showcases the ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit of Nigerian manufacturers. The fair, which aims to promote locally produced goods and services, was graced by His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Katsina, Alhaji Faruk Lawal. Our participation underscores the importance of supporting homegrown businesses and encouraging the consumption of made-in-Nigeria products as a means to boost the local economy.
The day was filled with notable engagements, beginning with a visit to our Industrial Development Center in Katsina. This facility plays a vital role in providing technical support and resources to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), thereby contributing to the industrialization of the region. Our discussions focused on expanding the center’s capabilities to better serve the growing needs of businesses in the area.
Following this, we held a significant meeting with His Excellency, the former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, at his country home in Daura. The conversation was centered on ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial base and the role of SMEs in achieving this objective. The insights and experiences shared by the former President were invaluable in guiding our strategic direction.
We concluded the day by paying our respects to His Majesty, the Emir of Daura. The visit was a gesture of goodwill and an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the development of the region. The Emir’s support is crucial in driving local initiatives that align with our broader economic goals.
